Chasing Climate Protection Grants

So I've been conspicuously absent from the blog writing over the last few days bc I had this incredible grant opportunity fall in my lap. The EPA was soliciting proposals for a Climate Showcase Communities grant to help cities in their climate protection endeavors and highlight practices that can be replicated across the country.

Lynne Barker with ICLEI and the Executive Director of the STAR Community Index called on Friday wondering if Fayetteville would be a willing partner (proposal was due yesterday). $500,000 from the EPA with a 50% match requirement which ICLEI and STAR were willing to provide, outside of some in-kind funding from me devoting hours to the project. Hard to pass something up like that!

In short, the grant would help make Fayetteville the first City in the U.S. to implement STAR; a sustainability index currently being developed by ICLEI, US Green Building Council, and the Center for American Progress.

This process would also include the creation of a Sustainability Plan which would include a Climate Action Guide and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory for the community. So we'll keep our fingers crossed and go from there.
