Mike Johnson, Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities at the U of A, presented the U of A's draft of their Climate Protection Plan and details on their greenhouse gas emissions inventory. The Climate Protection Plan describes how the U of A will reduce its carbon footprint to 1990 levels; beginning with a $50 million investment in energy efficiency upgrades on campus structures. It also includes some very interesting proposals around forest management for sequestration and ideas for reducing fuel consumption.
The cross over between operations management between the City and U of A is very relevant. We're in a great position to learn from their efforts.
Anyway, feel free to peruse the City's Sustainability Report to find out about all of the great things our departments are doing as well. It's great to work in such a forward thinking community!
