The Chamber of Commerce formally announced its new green certification program for businesses in a 10 a.m. press conference this morning. In partnership with local businesses, Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) at the Walton College of Business, and the U of A's Applied Sustainability Center, organizations will have the ability to get certified for their sustainable operations  in the areas of water, waste, energy, purchasing, education, and people.

The key features of the program include a third-party assessment and a check list that outlines the steps that must be taken to qualify. It's also not a one time application. Businesses must continue to show sustainable operation practices and improvement to retain certification over the coming years.
