The Arkansas Public Service Commission today issued a series of orders aimed at promoting energy efficiency efforts of Arkansas utilities and to encourage better technology for electric and gas utilities. The PSC announcement of its orders are on the jump.

Here's a detailed summary of the docket, in process for more than two years.

The Arkansas Public Service Commission issued 10 Orders today designed to promote the energy efficiency efforts of Arkansas utilities and to explore advancing technology affecting electric and natural gas utilities.

The 10 Orders follow more than two years of Commission inquiries in four separate Dockets that involved public comments and hearings, sworn testimony, legal briefs, technical conferences, and public presentations by national leaders. Accompanying the 10 Orders issued today, the Commission promulgated a Sustainable Energy Resources (SER) Action Guide.

The Commission's actions come in part pursuant to the Commission's authority under The Arkansas Energy Conservation Endorsement Act of 1977.

The Orders issued today promote utility energy efficiency efforts by removing the traditional disincentives that investor-owned utilities have with energy efficiency programs from lost sales and by allowing large commercial and industrial customers to opt-out by self-directing a company's energy efficiency efforts. The Orders mandate that
the effectiveness of these energy efficiency efforts will be independently verified and measured to ensure the success of these programs.
